If the Equipment Control (EC) and Yard Planning modules are part of your terminal operating system, the planner’s job becomes easier in several ways:
N4 automatically dispatches discharge work instructions (no need to print sequence sheets).
N4 records discharges in real time, which makes it easier to monitor operations.
You can plan discharges to general yard blocks (wheeled or grounded), yard heaps, or direct allocation ranges (DARs). Equipment Control then assigns an actual position as moves are executed.
N4 automatically records final yard positions (no need to complete and confirm positions in the XPS client).
For information about discharging with the Equipment Control module, see the manual Navis N4: Equipment Control Administrator and User Guide if you have implemented Equipment Control with ECN4, or SPARCS Equipment Control: Dispatcher's Guide if you have implemented Equipment Control with a Radio Server.
The general steps for assigning work instructions through Equipment Control are:
Select containers in the discharge order you want and either plan them to specific locations in the yard, dump them on a logical block (for example, the E.C. or Chassis block) or a heap. See Planning discharge containers (on page 1) for more information.
Set up CHE zones for equipment such as RMGs, reach stackers, or forklifts. Or set up points of work for other types of CHE. This enables automatic job list dispatch for moves.
Activate the appropriate work queues. The Equipment Control module automatically dispatches moves or provides job lists to CHE, as determined in your configuration and setup.
